Woodland Visits

Woodland visitsEducation visits are free to schools in Wales and all the activities are planned, risk assessed and led by Forestry Commission Wales Education Officers. Most topics can be covered and all age ranges catered for. Activities can be tailored to meet your class themes and follow the seasons.

Some examples of activities include:

  • Forest Senses - Explore the woodlands using your senses. Make smelly cocktails, meet a tree, create mini-pictures and many more.

  • Mini beasts – Go on a woodland safari, find and identify native woodland creatures.

  • Environmental Art – A variety of fun activities designed to explore colour, texture and shape. Create large sculptures and small pictures using the natural materials of the woodland.

  • Habitats – Find out about the life processes of plants and animals that inhabit the woodlands.

  • Shelter Building – Learn about animal homes, nests and why they need them, e.g. for shelter and protection. In groups build dens or nests from natural materials.

  • Sustainable Forestry (KS2 upwards) – Learn about forest industries and how they contribute to a sustainable environment.

For more information and to book your visit contact your local education officer.
