Seven Wonders of the Weald

Bedgebury - Bewl Water - Finchcocks - Marle Place - Lamberhurst Vineyard - Scotney Castle - Sissinghurst The Seven Wonders of the Weald are all within easy reach of one another and offer the visitor the chance to experience a variety of different outdoor attractions. Some of the attractions have special events throughout the year, such as outdoor summer concerts, fungi forays, sculpture shows and boating extravaganzas. Details of these can be found on their individual websites. The diversity of the Seven Wonders of the Weald, and their setting in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), makes visiting the attractions a must when venturing into the heart of the Kent & Sussex borders. Just 8 miles from Tunbridge Wells and less than 40 miles south east of London, this is an area of rolling hills draped with small irregular fields and grasslands, abundant woodlands and hedges, sunken lanes, captivating villages and farmsteads plus wonderful historic buildings to admire - all combining to make one of England’s finest landscapes. The term ‘Weald’ (derived from the Germanic word wald meaning wilderness or forest) describes the whole area between the North and South Downs AONBs. With more distinctive ridges and valleys and better conserved landscape features than the Low Weald, the High Weald was designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1983 and remains largely undiscovered.
