Cycling

A group of young cyclists on a forest road.Whatever your ability there’s something for everyone at Alice Holt. Our 3 mile cycle trail is suitable for both children and adults, offering all the family a chance to explore further into the forest. Cycle hire is currently unavailable so you will need to bring your own bike but we plan to have hire available again by the summer.

Whilst on the trail, why not take a break halfway round at one of our picnic sites or even a short detour to Lodge Pond; definitely not to be missed! This large medieval pond is a wonderful location for relaxing and the variety of bird life there, from great crested grebes, moorhens, herons and mallard ducks amongst many others, will delight bird watchers.

We also host an annual charity cycle ride, aimed at raising funds for disadvantaged communities in Peru. If you’re interested in organising a cycling event please contact us and we’ll be happy to discuss your plans.

Cycling along a woodland trail.Cycling for All

East Hampshire Cycling for All is a new project set up in partnership between the Forestry Commission, East Hampshire District Council and CTC - the national cyclists' organisation.

A range of specialist cycles will make cycling a fun, healthy option for people who might find regular bikes unsuitable. Tricycles help with balance and confidence, tandems make cycling very sociable and hand-powered trikes enable cycling with no leg-power whatsoever. These cycles will also be suitable for people returing to health who are not quite up to riding a standard bike but want to start getting active. Clive, who runs the project, also has a number of regular bikes for those in the group who don't need a special cycle. The beautiful traffic-free environment of Alice Holt Forest is a great place for beginners to get into cycling.

For more information, or to book a ride, take a look at the project website or contact CTC's Cycling Champions Officer, Clive Andrews, on 07717 721511 or clive.andrews@ctc.org.uk.

The project will expand later to develop satellite locations around East Hampshire where people will be able to hire cycles of all kinds, thereby making access to cycling much more widely available.

Volunteers will be needed to help run the scheme and if you'd be interested in volunteering please ring Clive.
