Plan your visit to Dalby Forest

The Discovery Pass, the annual pass for access to Dalby Forest is on sale, price £42.  There are a range of benefits with the new pass, including 20% off Go Ape! Monday to Friday in term time, excluding bank holidays, 20% off at Purple Mountain bike hire Monday to Friday in term time, excluding bank holidays, 10% discount in the Forestry Commission shop (£5 minimum spend), 10% off Christmas trees at Dalby and monthly special offers at Tree Tops Restaurant.

Yearly passes are available for minibuses.

Please note that access is free for those entering the forest on foot, bike, horse and on the Moorsbus.

Income earned from the admission to Dalby Forest is reinvested in the site.

How to find us

Access is via Pickering on the A169 Pickering to Whitby road.  Look out for Brown tourist signs. Our postcode is YO18 7LT for GPS systems, please note access is via Pexton or Bickley only.

The Moors Bus operates a service through the forest between Easter and October. Other service buses are available in Thornton Le Dale to major towns and cities. A walking route is available from Thornton Dale into the forest via Ellerburn.

Opening hours

The forest is open daily from 7.30am to 8pm.
The Visitor Centre is open daily from 10am to 4.30pm (hours extended during summer months).

Dalby Courtyard has craft units, Purple Mountain Bike Centre & cafe and toilets.

Toilets

Toilets are available at the Visitor Centre, Dalby Courtyard and at Staindale. All have facilities for the disabled.

Forest Shop

This is the place for information about the forest and what it has to offer. Leaflets and books are available as are gifts and other forest related products.

Play Area's

There are two play areas; Sneverdale and Adderstone Field.  Both have a range of play furniture for all ages.  There is also a chains course at Adderstone.

Dogs

Dogs are welcome in the forest and must be kept under control at all times. This is for the safety of the other forest users as well as to protect the wildlife.

Facilities for the less able

Dalby Forest Visitor Centre is fully wheel chair accessible and all the toilet blocks include disabled toilet facilities . Easy access trails are available at Dalby (Dalby Beck), Staindale Lake and Bickely (Waitcliff Trail).  The Friends of Dalby Forest have provided two electric buggies and two wheelchairs for use by visitors.  Please contact the Visitor Centre to arrange use of these facilities, there is no charge for this facility.

Barbecue and picnic sites can be found throughout the forest.  Please use the barbeque stands provided and to avoid damage to picnic tables please do not place disposable barbeques on the wooden surfaces.  Please place barbeques on stones rather than the grass to avoid scorch marks.

Please contact the local Tourist Information Centre for details for local accommodation.  Check to see if your accommodation provider has an Accommodation Pass for Dalby.
