Current status of our facilities (updated 7 February 2012)

Chopwell Woodland Park

Trails

  • All trails open. The River walk (red) will be diverted around Lintzford Wood when operations commence here on 18th April. Diversion likely to be in place until the New Year.

Car park

  • Open

Hamsterley Forest

Trails

  • All trails open.
  • The Orange Trail is diverted from its published route due to fallen trees
  • The Brown Horse Route and Red Cycle Route have small diversions in place due to felling operations - please follow signage

Forest drive, car parks and other facilities

  • The main access road to the Bedburn car park is open
  • The Forest Drive is currently closed due to adverse weather conditions
  • Car parks are open 9am to 5pm. 
  • Wood n' Wheels cycle hire is open weekends (10am-4pm) until April 2012
  • The visitor centre is closed until March 31st 2012.

Kielder Forest

Trails

  • Kershope Horse Trails are currently closed due to forestry operations.
  • The Castle Wood Skills Loop trail (black grade section) is still temporarily closed due to windblow damage.
  • All other trails are open.

Forest drive, car parks and other facilities

  • Purple Mountain bike hire is open Friday to Sunday, 9am-5pm from 14 January.
  • The Duke's Pantry Tea Room is open daily, 10-5pm
  • Kielder Castle visitor centre is closed until March 31st 2012. 
  • Kielder Head Bothy is currently closed.
  • A fee of £4 is payable for parking in the Castle Car Park. This fee allows you to park in any car park in Kielder Water and Forest Park, including Northumbrian Water Car parks. In addition a short term fee of £1.50 for up to one hour is being introduced for short stay visitors at Kielder Castle.
  • The toilets at Blakehopeburnhaugh are closed until 1st April 2012
  • Kielder Forest Drive is closed, but is due to re-open on Sunday 1 April 2012.
  • There are no lights at Skyspace dawn or dusk due to low water levels.

Forests of Rothbury

Trails

  • Hepburn Wood trails are closed until March 2012 due to timber harvesting operations.

Car parks

  • Open.
