Our trees

Azalea flowers at Westonbirt ArboretumFor most visitors Westonbirt Arboretum is synonymous with spectacular autumn colour thanks to our maples. However, while they are indeed exceptionally beautiful, we believe that the Collection has many other species that give Westonbirt year-round appeal. Many also have interesting stories to tell and are well worth seeking out. These pages aim to highlight some of these (as well as our maples)!

A number of other tree groups are well represented at Westonbirt. Details of these groups and some of our best specimens are showcased in our major groups pages. In response to many visitor requests we have also included pages on our champion trees (the largest or tallest in the country) and rare or endangered trees. Lastly, our 'signature trees' section contains details of tree species which have special importance to Westonbirt.

Finding our trees

A map reference (a number followed by a letter) has been provided for good specimen examples of all species highlighted in this section.  These references correspond to a square on our map printed in our seasonal guide. These are freely available on arrival to Westonbirt from the great Oak Hall. You can also serach for specific trees on our interactive map.
