Facilities
Coach Parking Your coach will drop you off in or near the main car park and then continue to the coach park, situated outside the main office. You will be welcomed by a member of the Education Team at the main car park drop-off point. The Great Oak Hall The Great Oak Hall is an information point where you can pick up free leaflets and maps. If your group has booked any numeracy activities the equipment will be here for you to collect. If you are early, please make your way up to the Great Oak Hall and we will meet you there.
Toilets The main toilets are next to the Great Oak Hall. Although the toilet block is quite large, on very busy days we will need to stagger classes using them. A smaller toilet block can be found near the Skilling Gate entrance to Silk Wood, particularly relevant for our Teddy's Day Out groups and those following the Native Tree Trail and orienteering courses. Visitor Services Next to the main toilets is the visitor services building. Please approach staff there for any assistance with first aid or lost children. Wheelchairs If any of your class or the adults coming with you need one, we have electric and ordinary wheelchairs available for you to use. You will need to book them before your visit by phoning 01666 881218. On the day of your visit please go to visitor services to collect your wheelchair. The Education Centre The Education Centre has 2 presentation rooms, a classroom, a wild bird feeding station and a large undercover area. On arrival at the Education Centre children will be asked to hang their lunch bags up on pegs, change into wellies, waterproofs, or sun hat! If you want the children to have a snack break there are benches and recycling/compost bins at the centre, but please let staff know. There are also some displays for you to look at, that will tell you about the wildlife living at the arboretum. Most programmes begin with a 20 minute introduction in one of our two presentation rooms, the Woodland Room or Bird Room. The bird room also doubles up as a place to watch wild birds feeding and you are welcome to spend time during lunch observing them. Lunchtime At lunchtime the children will collect their lunch from the Education Centre and walk around to the toilets so that they can wash their hands. There are plenty of picnic tables and a large grassy area for the children to play in. If it is wet or cold you can spend lunchtime back at the Education Centre undercover. Please bring a lunch box or rucsack as lunches in carrier bags may get eaten by crows!
