The Timberlink Service
The Timberlink Service ships around 100,000 tonnes of timber a year from the four ports of Ardrishaig, Campeltown, Portavadie and Sandbank to Troon in Ayrshire, where it is moved to local wood processing plants such as Egger at Auchinleck, Caledonian Paper and Mairs Sawmill (both in Irvine), and Wilson’s Sawmill in Troon.
As well as helping to ensure economic development around the local ports, the service removes around 8,000 lorry journeys – or nearly one million lorry miles – a year from roads between Argyll and Ayrshire, including the busy tourist routes on the Argyll peninsula and the A82 through Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Timberlink is run by Associated British Ports.
