Research programmes
Climate change is a strategic priority of our Science and Innovation Strategy for British Forests, and an issue which cross cuts a number of the research programmes we sponsor from our research agency Forest Research and other key organisations. Supporting research is vital to develop measures to mitigate climate change and a better understanding of what will make woodland ecosystems resilient in a changing physical and biological environment will be key to developing adaptation policies. The Forestry Commission's Science and Innovation Strategy (pdf) was approved by forestry ministers in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in July 2005. The Strategy sets out how research programmes are determined and how they are linked to forestry strategies and the wider policy objectives of UK Government and the devolved administrations. A Summary (pdf) of the Strategy is also available. Details of all current programmes are given in the Research Catalogue.
