What can I do at Jeskyns?
Walking There is a trail for everyone at Jeskyns. Choose from four easy going waymarked, wide surfaced trails varying in length of between 0.75miles and 3 miles. These trails are fully accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs. If you prefer to get your boots dirty then step off the beaten track - there are plenty of grass trails and tracks to explore! Jeskyns welcomes responsible dog owners. Please keep dogs under close control at all times and clean up after your pet. Download the Jeskyns Dog Code here: jeskyns-dog-code.pdf (344KB) Cycling Jeskyns is a great place to cycle for the whole family. Cyclists are welcome to use the whole site including the surfaced trails which have purposefully been made wide enough to accommodate a variety of users. However, please be a courteous cyclist and always give way to pedestrians. Horse RidingThe grass horse trail forms a great circular route for riders and takes in all the most interesting features on site. There is no charge for riding at Jeskyns. Please note that for the safety of everyone, horses are not permitted to canter or gallop on site and must stay off the surfaced paths except at essential crossing points. Visitors should note that at present there are no horse trailer parking facilities provided at Jeskyns. Playing Unlike many playgrounds where the equipment is made from standardised metal, plastic and rubber parts, the play features at Jeskyns have been specifically designed and created to fit into the natural environment and to encourage children to use their imagination whilst playing. At Jeskyns, children can climb to the top of an exciting tree house, make themselves dizzy spinning around hop poles or come and experience a natural ball pool which uses pine cones instead of balls! LearningJeskyns provides a whole host of learning opportunities for schools, organised groups or just the interested individual! Interpretation panels dotted around site provide a wealth of information about the bio diversity of the area, how the site has developed over time and the benefits that Jeskyns brings to people and the surrounding areas. An education pack to encourage schools to use Jeskyns as an outdoor classroom is currently in production and will be made available soon. Note for groups and schools: The car park is height restricted (max 2m) therefore if you plan to arrive by coach or mini bus please provide prior notice to the Ranger who will be happy to ensure that the height barrier is opened for you. On site toilet facilities can be made available for organised educational groups – again please contact the Ranger. OrienteeringOrienteering consists of navigating on foot between points on a pre-defined course drawn on a map. Jeskyns has a permanent orienteering course and maps can be purchased from the Shorne Wood Country Park Visitor Centre (£1 per copy). Why not give it a try? Please note that maps are the copyright of Ordnance Survey and Dartford Orienteering Klubb.
