Woodland Grant Scheme (WGS) - basic principles

Woodland Improvement Grants (WIG)
There were 3 WIG projects available:

  • WIG Project 1 (143k - pdf) – Providing public recreation in woodlands.
    Encourage informal public recreation in existing woodlands by opening up woods for recreation or to improve areas already being used by the public.
  • WIG Project 2  (81k - pdf) – Undermanaged woodlands.
    To help bring woodlands which are under-managed or have low commercial value back into management.
  • WIG Project 3  (143k - pdf) – Woodland biodiversity.
    To assist woodland owners to manage their woods in ways which will implement the forestry aspects of the UK Biodiversity Action Plan.
  • WGS 6  - WIG Costings and Additional Information Form  (70k - pdf)

Challenge Funds
Challenge Funds offered additional grant aid for specially targetted areas - see examples below. 

Transitional Grants
These grants were available until the closure of the Woodland Grant Scheme on 31 August 2006.
