The Timber Transport Forum

The Timber Transport Forum was established in February 2000 to provide a mechanism for sharing ideas and best practice across the existing Regional Timber Transport Groups and the wider forest industry.

The Forum is made up of representatives of the Regional Timber Transport Groups, local and central government (Forestry Commission and Scottish Government Transport Department) and economic development agencies, the Forestry Contracting Association, Confederation of Forest Industries, Forestry & Timber Association and the United Kingdom Forest Products Association.

The Forum's work is managed by the Confederation of Forest Industries and receives financial support from Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Forestry Commission England, Forestry Commission Scotland and Forestry Commission Wales.

The main objective of the Forum is to share information on topics of common concern and agree collaborative action. This will be achieved through:

  • Facilitating communication between the Regional Timber Transport Groups;
  • Disseminating information about the work of Regional Timber Transport Groups and other timber transport initiatives;
  • Identifying international best practice and promoting innovative thinking;
  • Establishing working groups to address specific issues; and
  • Holding an annual meeting to review progress and plan future actions.
