Forestry Commission Scotland's programme of flagship events, organised with a range of partners, to celebrate Scotland's Year of Highland Culture 2007.

Between two worlds

Between two worlds

"Between Two Worlds" will be an inspirational journey through an iconic part of Badenoch & Strathspey - an experience involving art, music and light that will be created by sculptor and environmental artist Diane Maclean and light artist Malcolm Innes in the atmospheric heart of Glenmore Forest Park, in November 2007.

Dark sky Scotland

Dark sky Scotland

Using the national forest estate where light pollution isn't a problem, "Dark Sky Scotland" will be the first ever Scotland-wide astronomy programme. In partnership with the Royal Observatory Edinburgh and others, we will help to inspire pupils, teachers, families, communities and visitors through observing the night skies both from Scotland's forests and, by satellite link, from international observatories.

Touchwood festival

Festival

This two-day festival, showcasing the diversity of the Highlands’ trees, woods, forests and environment and those who work within them, use them and enjoy them, took place in Dingwall on 1 - 2 June 2007.

Touchwood history

History

This pilot project, being undertaken with the University of the Highlands and Islands and the University of Aberdeen, will record the impact that the Forestry Commission, since it was formed in 1919, has had on the communities of North Sutherland, Fort Augustus and Mid Argyll; particularly their environment, landscape, culture and industry.

Green machine

Green machine

A joint venture with Scottish Natural Heritage, this project involves a mobile facility, aimed especially at schools, touring around the Highlands in 2007 to provide information, educational information and exhibitions about the importance of trees, woods and forests, the environment, wildlife and biodiversity.
