Wales Harvesting and Marketing (WHaM) is the harvesting and marketing department of the Forestry Commission in Wales. Its office is in Penrhyncoch, near Aberystwyth, and its staff cover the whole of Wales, managing all timber harvesting, haulage and sales within Assembly Managed Woodlands. The unit was established in the year 2000 to draw together the harvesting expertise in Wales and concentrate sales efforts. The office in Penrhyncoch is now also the home to the Country Civil Engineer and his team. There are 44 members of staff in WHaM, reporting to Hugh Jones as head of the unit. The team aims to make 790,000 m3 of timber available to the market each year. This will be put to the market through the sale of standing timber or as felled timber, worked by Forestry Commission Wales fleet machines and contractors. All of our timber is sold competitively either through quarterly electronic tenders, or through long-term contracts. For information about timber purchasing, or to register to purchase timber electronically, contact a member of our team or register online. |
