Managing Land Use in the Forest
This programme  links particularly well with QCA schemes of work for Geography (KS 3 Units 1,16 and 19) and Citizenship (KS 3 Units 12 and 21, KS 4 Unit 12). It is designed to help students understand the opportunities and conflicts involved in managing sites where recreation, conservation and commercial timber production co-exist. Students gather information about the Forest and learn about the opportunities and conflicts involved in managing the site, whilst taking the issue of sustainability into account. The skills developed and information gathered during the visits can be used to inform land use studies in other contexts.

Map Reading and Orienteering skills event with secondary school childrenMap Skills
This programme links well with year 7 map work courses and is suitable for other year groups needing to develop their map skills. Students have a lively day creating and using maps, learning about the forest and putting their new skills into practice through orienteering.

The Living Environment
Here the focus is on living things in their environment, taking account of the range of environments within a forest and looking at subjects such as adaptation, competition and feeding relationships. The programme links with QCA  Schemes of Work KS 3 Units 7C, 7D and 8D for Science.

Stream StudiesSecondary school group engaged in stream studies in a woodland environment.
The small streams at Alice Holt which flow into the River Wey basin offer an opportunity for students to observe and measure hydrological processes at work and to learn data collection techniques. There are ideal locations for field sketches, particularly of maenders where changes in the valley profile over time can be observed.
