The BWW Woodland Improvement Grant is available to support a range of woodland work designed to provide environmental and commercial work. Grant rates are available offering up to 25%, 50% or 75% towards the cost of carrying out such work depending on the type and location of the work to be done. The spreadsheet at the foot of this page gives details of the percentage grant rates available for various activities. The following environmental and commercial work is eligible for woodland improvement grant: - Infrastructure work including the building roads, tracks, processing areas and transfer points.
- Harvesting work including uneconomical thinning and clear felling and the clearing of windblow.
- Work to secure natural regeneration, such as scarification, seed collection, direct seeding, under-planting or planting of gaps.
- Control of invasive or exotic plant species.
- Deer management infrastructure.
- Squirrel control.
- Boundary fencing including stock fencing or the repair of traditional boundaries.
- Post establishment work including removing tree shelters, cleaning & re-spacing, brashing & pruning.
- Other Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) Work, for example work involving BAP species where an ecological survey has identified the need to carry out such work.
- The protection of archaeological features.
- Work required to bring woodlands up to current environmental standards, such as riparian or landscape work.
Making a claim All applications for BWW grants require the completion of a management plan and plan of operations which must be approved by the FCW and woodland owner before grant can be claimed and paid. The management plan identifies work that is grant aided and the year in which a claim must be made. You may only submit a claim for grant when the work is complete. See BWW grant claim form below. Funding from other sources If you intend to obtain funds from other organisations or partners for your work proposals then you must tell us about this. We will need details about the role of your funding partner(s) will have in your project and the amount of funding or other help they will provide.
