Standard Replanting Grants | Replanting option | Basic criteria | Rate per hectare | | Standard crops | No species restriction provided they are suitable for the site. 2500 stems per hectare, pro-rata rate for lower stocking densities. | £500
| | Simple mixtures | A single species cannot make up more than 75% of the total replant. At least 25%, or greater, of the total replant must consist of broadleaf species. A minimum of 3 species must be replanted and at least 10% of each of these 3 species must be planted. 2500 stems to be planted per ha. to achieve full grant rate. | £1000 | | Quality mixtures | A single species cannot make up more than 50% of the total replant. At least 25%, or greater, of the total replant must consist of broadleaf species. A minimum of 5 species must be replanted and at least 10% of these 5 species must be planted. Of the 5 minimum species types to be replanted at least 2 should be of a broadleaf species. 2500 stems to be planted per ha. to achieve full grant rate. | £1500 | | Native woodlands | Suitable local provenance site native species, planted in communities corresponding to Habitat Action Plan native woodland types. 1600 stems per hectare. Plantations on Ancient Woodland Sites (PAWS) A combination of WIG and replanting grants are available for the management of Plantations on Ancient Woodland Sites. A PAWS assessment will be carried out on all PAWS sites within the plan area based upon our guidance. You must meet certain requirements based upon UKWAS Standard Section 6.4.2. to maintain the environmental value of the site but we will be looking to see the environmental value of the site as a whole improve. If we give consent to fell trees within the PAWS site (provided this will not reduce the value of the site), there are four categories of grant aid for replanting. | Management and restoration option | Rate per hectare | | Maintenance of PAWS | £500 | | Partial > 25% restoration | £1000 | | Partial > 50% restoration | £1500 | | Full restoration to 100% native woodland | £1500 1 | | Full restoration to 100% native woodland | £2000 2 |
1 Where a PAWS assessment was not carried out prior to felling or where felling has been carried out in ways that damage the sensitive nature of the site) 2 Where a PAWS assessment carried out prior to the felling identified clear felling as the most appropriate method of restoration- Please note that specific conditions apply to each PAWS option.
Open Ground Small areas of un-mapped open ground totalling up to 20% of the grant aid area may be included in an application. Larger areas of open space greater than 0.25 hectare are not eligible for replanting grant, however you may be able to claim Woodland Improvement Grant for this type of work.
