Plantations on Ancient Woodland Sites (PAWS)
A combination of WIG and replanting grants are available for the management of Plantations on Ancient Woodland Sites.

A PAWS assessment will be carried out on all PAWS sites within the plan area based upon our guidance.  You must meet certain requirements based upon UKWAS Standard Section 6.4.2. to maintain the environmental value of the site but we will be looking to see the environmental value of the site as a whole improve.

If we give consent to fell trees within the PAWS site (provided this will not reduce the value of the site), there are four categories of grant aid for replanting.

Open Ground
Small areas of un-mapped open ground totalling up to 20% of the grant aid area may be included in an application. Larger areas of open space greater than 0.25 hectare are not eligible for replanting grant, however you may be able to claim Woodland Improvement Grant for this type of work.
