Regulations
The Forestry Commission is responsible for the administration of various regulatory mechanisms, through Acts of Parliament, Statutory Instruments and the implementation of EU Directives.  We will ensure, where possible, that all woodland work proposals meet these where appropriate.

Most of the legislation is applied on a GB wide basis – unless a law is applicable to a specific country. Generally most of the laws are applicable in England and Wales, with Scottish law applied to work that takes place or for issues relating to Scotland.

You can use the document link at the bottom of this page to see a list of all the relevant legislation with an explanation of how we apply each one.  All of the main laws that the Forestry Commission administers are included in this table. UK Laws that have been derived from European Union (EU) Directives are also included. The table is organised in alphabetical order. See EU Directives for further information.

This information will help you to find out more about why and how we apply laws. You can investigate further if you wish to do so, copies of the legislation listed below can be obtained by visiting the Office of Public Sector Information (OPSI) web site.
