Grants and Regulations

Public Register

Forestry Commission Wales consults local authorities and other organisations when an application is made for creating a new woodland, tree felling or other forestry work that may have a significant impact on the environment.

As part of the consultation process, Forestry Commission Wales publishes online information about these applications on two registers:

  • The Register of grant scheme and felling applications; and
  • The Register of Environmental Impact Assessment.

Both registers allow anyone to look up information about a particular application, or decision made by Forestry Commission Wales.  Please note that no applicant's personal information is disclosed in the registers.

Register of grant scheme and felling applications
This Register shows details of grant applications to carry out new planting, or other forestry work, and felling included in the grant application.  If felling only is proposed, details from the felling licence are published. A map displaying the boundary or location of the proposals can also be viewed. Case details are displayed at the stage when the Forestry Commission is prepared to approve the application and remains on the Register for four weeks.  Case details are displayed again when the application has been approved.

Register of Environmental Impact Assessment
Under the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) (Forestry) Regulations 1999 the Forestry Commission must show the decisions it makes about whether proposals will have a significant effect on the environment. Details of the case and the Forestry Commission decision at the initial assessment (Opinion) are shown.

For cases where Forestry Commission consent to carry out the work is required, details of two further stages are displayed, when the applicant arranges the scoping meeting and the Forestry Commissions final decision (determination) about whether or not consent will be given to start the work.
