Wind energy
Wind power is a clean, renewable source of energy which produces no greenhouse gas emissions or waste products.
As Wales’s biggest landowner, the Assembly has identified onshore wind farms as having a key role to play in helping to meet renewable energy obligations.
The Assembly recently published Technical Advice Note 8: Planning for Renewable Energy which sets ambitious targets for onshore wind farm development by 2010 in Wales. As managers of the Assembly’s woodlands, we have a responsibility to help meet these targets. Our National Committee has reviewed the best way to approach the delivery of the Assembly’s renewable energy objectives and as a result we have set up the National Forest Estate Windfarm Programme to manage this process.
