Supporting the use of renewable energy sources
The UK Government supports the use of renewable energy sources for generating electricity and heat as part of its strategy for improving sustainability and reducing the impact of climate change.
In Scotland, the Scottish Government has set a target of 50% electricity generation from renewables by 2020, with an interim milestone of 31% by 2011.
How is Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) involved?
- We are working to develop the potential of the national forest estate for wind and hydro power.
- We support the creation of a vibrant, viable and expanding wood fuel and bio-energy sector.
