Timber transport

TRAIN LOAD OF TIMBER AWAITING TRANSPORT TO SAWMILL. FORT WILLIAM

"Developing timber transport infrastructure remains an important priority for forest industries and local communities" - Scottish Forestry Strategy.

Forestry Commission Scotland aims to increase the efficiency of the timber supply chain to:

  • improve sector competitiveness; and
  • minimise the social and environmental impacts of timber transport.

Strategic Timber Transport Fund

The Strategic Timber Transport Fund is available for proposals designed to minimise the impact of timber transportation on Scotland's fragile rural and public roads.  For more information on the fund, how to apply to it and awards already made, see the Strategic Timber Transport Fund pages.

Timberlink

The Timberlink Service moves timber by sea on the west coast of Scotland, removing nearly one million lorry miles a year from Scottish roads.

The Timber Transport Forum

The Timber Transport Forum provides a way to share ideas and best practice across existing Regional Timber Transport Groups and the wider forest industry. Visit the timber transport forum website.
