How to get to Laggan Wolftrax

 

Laggan Wolftrax trails are in Strathmashie Forest, just off the A86 Laggan to Spean Bridge road.  The trailhead is at BaseCamp MTB, just off the A86.

By Car

If driving north on the A9, turn off at Dalwhinnie onto the A889.  At Laggan Bridge, turn left onto the A86 to Spean Bridge.  Laggan Wolftrax is a mile ahead on the left-hand side.

Driving south from Inverness on the A9, turn off at Kingussie onto the A86 towards Spean Bridge and Fort William. Follow the A86 through Newtonmore (watch for the signposted fork in the road) and Laggan Bridge.  Wolftrax is on the left about a mile past the intersection with the A889.

Driving east from Fort William on the A82, turn onto the A86 at Spean Bridge towards Kingussie. Continue past Loch Laggan and Creag Meagaidh nature reserve to Strathmashie Forest, and Strathmashie House on the left. Wolftrax is on the right-hand side of the road about 1km past Strathmashie House.

By public transport

By bus

Scottish Citylink service M91 runs from Edinburgh and Inverness to Dalwhinnie, Newtonmore and Kingussie. From Glasgow take service M8 and change in Perth to join service M91.

Journey time is around 3 hours from Glasgow / Edinburgh to Dalwhinnie, 3 hours 15 mins to Newtonmore, and 3 hours 20 to Kingussie.

From Inverness the journey takes just over and hour to Kingussie and around 1hour 10 minutes to Newtonmore. Dalwhinnie is a further 15 minutes down the road.

Bikes are carried on Scottish Citylink services free of charge provided they are in an approved box or bag and that there is sufficient space in the luggage hold.

By train

The nearest stations are at Dalwhinnie and Newtonmore.  Dalwhinnie is approximately 13km from the trailhead and Newtonmore is around 16km.  There are more regular services stopping at Kingussie, approximately 20km from the trailhead.  Taxi services are generally available in Kingussie and Newtonmore.

Journey times from Glasgow and Edinburgh are around 2 and half hours to Dalwhinnie or Newtonmore, with Kingussie a further 5 minutes by train.

From Inverness, journey times are just under an hour to Kingussie and Newtonmore with Dalwhinnie a few minutes further on.
