Grants and Licences
Forestry Commission Grants and Licences, based at Silvan House in Edinburgh, are responsible for providing central services to each country. This involves giving regulatory advice, assessing our interaction with European Union (EU) regulations, assisting with publications and information, developing and maintaining central computer systems for grant schemes and providing a public help desk The links on the left will get you to the following information: Environmental Impact Assessment We must assess the possible environmental impact of projects to carry out afforestation or deforestation and building forestry roads or quarries. In certain circumstances you may need to apply for our consent before you start any work. There are separate Regulations for England and Wales, and Scotland. See our "Quick Guide" page or download a copy of the EIA booklet. Felling Licences If you wish to fell trees then you may need a licence outwith certain exemptions. Please note that it is an offence to fell trees without a licence where one would have been required. See our "Quick Guide" page or download a copy of the Felling Licence booklet. CROW Act (England and Wales) The Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 makes provision for public access to the countryside in England and Wales. The Forestry Commission’s freehold estate in England and Wales will be dedicated, wherever possible, giving right of access over that land in perpetuity. You can also get links to countryside organisations on this page. Grants The planting and management of woodlands is guided by the Forestry Strategy of each country. They each have their own separate grant scheme. You can see a brief summary of these on this page. If you would like to examine the full range of grants available in a particular country and how you can apply for them, use the links on the right. This section also has links to information about our work with EU regulations.
