Topic Summary

This topic focuses on the Woodland Habitat. Children will identify parts of a tree and their functions. They will grow a seed and develop informed attitudes on the conditions for growth. They will use simple keys to classify shrubs and trees. Children will also investigate the interaction of living things within the woodland habitat.

The plan includes a variety of activities e.g.

  • field study
  • investigating using reference material
  • experiments
  • written work
  • observation
  • talking and listening
  • use of the computer and drawing

Good use is made of Tree Trunk resources with links given to specific pages. A number of books and CD-ROMS are listed but other resources within the Tree Trunk could also be used in conjunction with this plan.
