Bassenthwaite Reflections

Bassenthwaite Lake Restoration Programme and the Heritage lottery Fund have come together to create an imaginative and exciting programme of projects which will significantly help us to achieve the restoration and protection we all seek. We have called it "Bassenthwaite Reflections".

It is a programme that aspires to engage the whole community in getting to know and understand the landscape, with a view to changing those things that are damaging the lake.

The programme is split into 4 programme areas with a common thread of education and school involvement running through them all.

The 4 programmes being:

  • Community Woodlands
  • Access for All
  • Landscape Shaped by Water
  • Cultural Routeways

Bassenthwaite Reflections is about engaging with the community who depend on this landscape. It is they who must be responsible custodians now, so that we can hand the lake on to the next generation in good order.

In supporting this programme, the Heritage Lottery Fund is ensuring that the landscape of Bassenthwaite Lake and its catchment is understood, valued and protected by the whole community, now and for ever!
