Bassenthwaite Lake

Dodd Wood and Bassenthwaite LakeBassenthwaite Reflections

Bassenthwaite Lake Restoration Programme and the Heritage lottery Fund have come together to create an imaginative and exciting programme of projects which will significantly help us to achieve the restoration and protection we all seek. We have called it "Bassenthwaite Reflections".

It is a programme that aspires to engage the whole community in getting to know and understand the landscape, with a view to changing those things that are damaging the lake.

The programme is split into 4 programme areas with a common thread of education and school involvement running through them all.

  • Community Woodlands
  • Access for All
  • Landscape Shaped by Water
  • Cultural Routeways

The Forestry Commission is a key partner as it manages a significnat amount of land around Bassenthwaite Lake as well as providing activities and events through the education and learning team based at Whinlatter.

Bassenthwaite Reflections is about engaging with the community who depend on this landscape. It is they who must be responsible custodians now, so that we can hand the lake on to the next generation in good order.
