One science unit has been written within the context of a woodland theme to support the teaching of Science "Living Things and the Processes of Life" at level C. This science unit at level C would be ideal for a primary 5 or 6 class. This unit has been designed with specific objectives in mind:
- to provide clear, focused learning outcomes matched to attainment targets
and activities to support the teaching
- to provide a science unit which closely matches the Renfrewshire Science
programme at level C for " Living Things" using identical AT's but within the
context of woodland. Renfrewshire Science is currently being promoted in all
Edinburgh Schools and will probably provide the framework for a similar
programme of study for the whole of Scotland
- to allow schools to integrate the unit into current programmes of study at
level C
- to allow schools who have adopted the pattern of running two units from different attainment outcomes simultaneously
- to have a science and technology unit running parallel with obvious links (a
technology unit at level C has been written specifically to compliment this
woodland science unit)
- to provide specific but limited activities for the unit but still allow
scope for individual teacher creativity
- to utilise some of the excellent current teaching material provided by the
Forestry Commission in a specific and focused way
- to provide useful resources, worksheets and contacts to support the unit
- to provide a specific assessment worksheets for the unit plan
