Two technology units have been written within the
context of a woodland theme to support the teaching of technology at levels A
& C. Technology level A would be ideal for a primary 1 or primary 2 class.
The technology unit at level C would be ideal for a primary 5 or 6 class. The
units have been designed with specific objectives in mind:
- to provide activities which will address the "how technology is used to meet
needs in society" aspect of ES 5-14 at two different levels
- to raise awareness of the world of business and enterprise which is
currently high on the agenda of " National Priorities in Education"
- to provide clear, focused learning outcomes matched to attainment targets an
activities to support the teaching
- to allow schools to integrate these units into current programmes of study
at the appropriate level
- to compliment a science unit where the focus was "Living Things and the
Processes of Life"
- to allow schools who have adopted the pattern of running two units from
different attainment outcomes simultaneously to have a science and technology
unit running parallel with obvious links - (a Woodland unit where the focus is
on science has also been written at level C as part of this project)
- to provide specific but limited activities for each unit but still allow
scope for individual teacher creativity
- to utilise some of the excellent current teaching material provided by the
Forestry Commission in a specific and focused way
- to provide useful resources, worksheets and contacts to support the
units
- to provide a specific assessment worksheet for each unit plan
