Dodd Wood

Dodd Wood and Bassenthwaite Lake

Dodd Wood is part of Whinlatter Forest Park and towering high above Bassenthwaite Lake, the Dodd provides unrivalled views of Derwent Water to the south and to the hills of Dumfries and Galloway. These are especially enjoyed by anyone prepared to make the journey to the summit. Dodd Wood offers attractive and varied waymarked trails from a central car park with picnic areas, cafe and toilets.

From April to August annually watch the Bassenthwaite Ospreys from our fantastic outdoor viewpoint on Dodd. Alternatively you can keep up with these amazing birds via our live nest camera or visit the Lake District Osprey Project .

The Sawmill Tearoom specialises in home made Cumbrian cooking including cakes, scones, sandwiches and hot dishes which are made on the premises. Among the favourites are The Old Sawmill Special, a large Cumberland sausage in a roll with apple sauce served with salad, and warm sticky gingerbread with rum butter and cream.

A visitor guide is available from Whinlatter Visitor Centre or the Sawmill Tea room.
