Introduction
The policy of the Forestry Commission is to market its timber in such a way as to optimise it's financial return from timber sales, whilst at the same time managing it's forests in a sustainable manner. A further aim is to encourage the development of healthy and competitive timber harvesting and wood processing industries in Great Britain.
The sales methods currently employed by the Forestry Commission are:
Long Term Contracts
Long-term Contracts are sales of roundwood, felled and standing, to customers. The second and subsequent years of a long-term contract are negotiated after the sale of the first year's volume. The procedure for letting Long-term Contracts will vary across the three countries: England, Scotland, and Wales.
Electronic Tenders
The majority of FC open market sales of timber will be conducted electronically, via another section of this website. The principal format for competitive sales will be the electronic tender. It is hoped the majority of our customers will benefit by, and be able to take advantage of, purchasing timber online. eSales Home page (Link)
