Families enjoying a picnic at Postern hill. Savernake forest. Forest of Dean

Postern Hill is a large site set amongst mature oak trees. There is ample parking and a large open grassy area with picnic tables and areas for 'bring your own' BBQ's.

Large round timber stumps have replaced the bbq's, please place your disposable bbq's on these to avoid burning benches, tables or grass.

What do other visitors say?

1. What are the parking charges to stay there and do a long walk? 2. Do you still close the gate at 7pm during the Autumn?-(October)

3. Is there a map available with a route to talk to see the best autumn colours on the trees in Savernake Forest?

Anonymous, 16/Oct/2016

Good morning, Parking at Postern Hill is free of charge. From the end of October we will no longer close the barrier at 7pm. There is no Autumn specific map, though there is now a map board at Postern Hill which shows you some of the main trails and some of the more special and well known trees. We hope you enjoy your visit Thanks

Having read some of the posts on your website am I right in thinking there is now a car park at the postern hill picnic site?

Anonymous, 14/Aug/2016

Parking is not permitted on the grass areas and this is now closed off with logs. There is however still a car park at Postern Hill and parking is permitted on the hard surfaces and in the bays provided. Thank you

Can you please advise if we are allowed to bring a gas BBQ up to use

Dan Cowan, 23/Jun/2016

BBQs are allowed in the picnic site area but we do ask that you respect other visitors and please take all rubbish home with you. Enjoy your visit
