Trail description

Cyclist on Lakeside Way, Kielder Water and Forest Park

The majority of this route follows the former Border Counties railway line (operational from 1862 to 1956) making it a relatively flat and easy ride, suitable for all abilities. The surface is mainly grassy tracks with occasional stretches on tarmac road. Starting at Kielder Castle, the trail joins the old railway just north of Kielder Village. The route runs parallel with the North Tyne (in its infancy at this point) and takes you through open countryside with fantastic views, to the Scottish Border at Deadwater Station. To return to Kielder, retrace your tracks to the village. Trail map download.
