Trail description

Walkers in Mortimer Forest

This trail takes in the majority of Mortimer Forest. Passing through a variety of woodland types and habitats and provides the walker with superb views across the forest and surrounding countryside.

Given the distance and the steep nature of some sections of the trail, this walk is designed for serious walkers with appropriate footwear and equipment.

Did Climbing Jack today. Fab walk despite grey weather dulling the colours a bit. We too encountered the issue of makers not being clear where we crossed a wide road and hit the pool trail. We went straight across as the marker post was propped up on a gorse bush giving the impression you walked on the Pool trail at that point. This meant we missed a corner as think we should have gone right up the road to the turn down and back till you pick up the pool trail. Going wrong simply meant we came out with the markers for CJ appearing to go in both directions. We used our GPS to decide which way was right way. Simply not being able to tell where the post had even come from made it harder. If you ever redo signs using numbered markers going in sequence is helpful as you can tell which way is you end up with signs both sides of you. Excellent walk highly recommend but as steep and slippy in places you need to be fit. will certainly do it again.

Thank you for your feedback. We will get that post back in the ground as soon as we can.

The walk was great except the signage was slightly confusing where it joined the black pool trail. We went uphill instead of straight on then came to the junction with no signage took a lucky guess and rejoined the trail further on.

Thank you for your feedback, we'll take a look at the signage.

we set off from the vinnals car park and followed the Climbing Jack signs for the entire walk. we ended up at the Whitcliffe car park, having followed the signs for the entire walk. is there a problem with the signs somewhere on the trail? we were faced at the end of the walk with a 1.5 miles trek along the road back to our car. the climbing jack walk is brillant (apart from the signage>>>>>)

We will check the signs are in place and there is nothing obstructing them. The walk does come close to but not into the car park at Whitcliffe.
