Trail description

View of the Wye valley from Symonds Yat Rock. Forest of Dean

Running up through the Iron Age fort and then around its eastern border, this trail follows tracks and roads through attractive mixed woodland.

Along the route there are 10 nature trail boards with things for you to look out for as you walk.

A nearby viewpoint can be reached by following a short section of the Mailscot Wood Trail, which has a rougher surface and steps.

Lovely day for fantastic panoramic views! Could have done with a hot drink though!

Glad you had a good day. The cafe has limited opening times in the winter months - weekends only.

Green route makers are still inadequate, I started the route from the car park and lost it on the first road crossing however I spent a fantastic 2 hours just a frequent walker at Symonds Yat and today was asked by a couple if they were on the green route. They weren't, they too missed the route at the road!

The rangers will look in to putting in an extra route marker at this point. Thnak you for your comment.

The green route was nice, but it should be marked up as not suitable for buggies/ pushchairs. The write up about the oath at the site itself is misleading.
