Admire the picturesque views of the River Wye and surrounding area from this internationally famous viewpoint. Discover the ancient hill fort, spot birds of prey and enjoy a snack from the log cabin cafe.

With spectacular views across the River Wye and the forest beyond, Symonds Yat Rock is a fabulous place to visit in autumn as the forest turns golden.

On the Autumn activity trail you can experience the spectacular sights and sounds of autumn, then head to your local woven woodland community canvas to make your mark with any natural materials you find on the forest floor.

Autumn activity trail

Our autumn activity trail is bursting with things to do, see, smell and touch as you explore the beauty of the forest with the family at this time of year.  The Autumn trail can be followed on the Symonds Yat Trail from the Symonds Yat Rock car park.

Woven Woodland

The woven woodland is a 'community weave', where visitors can add in colourful autumn objects that they've found in the forest From pine cones to brightly coloured leaves.  This can be found on the Autumn activity trail.

Fantastic forest trails

From Symonds Yat Rock there are waymarked trails linking to the Forest Holidays campsite, to the River Wye and a choice of circular walks into the forest itself.

Wonderful wildlife

Look out at the nearby cliffs to spot the nesting area of the Peregrine Falcons. You can enjoy watching the birds while they hunt and raise their young from April to August each year.

Ancient hill fort

The cliff top at Symonds Yat Rock provided a good vantage point for its Iron age inhabitants, who built a fort here 2,500 years ago. The site is now a scheduled ancient monument. Ongoing tree and vegetation management is designed to minimise damage to the old hillfort defences.

Log cabin cafe

Refreshments are provided by the 1950s built log cabin cafe, with a range of wholesome food including freshly made cakes, sandwiches and simple meals. Please note there is no inside seating area. Contact 01594 834479 for more details. Cash only please.

Fantastic views, with the meandering river Wye below. Plenty of parking space. Well stocked cafe. It has everything. My favourite location. I live in Devon but its still a place I visit regularly.
