Miterdale is a secluded quiet valley providing access to the West Cumbrian fells. A small grassy car park beside the River Mite provides the ideal place for a family picnic followed by pooh sticks and paddling, short and long walks through the forest or as the base for longer more adventurous treks into the mountains.

I love walking my dog up all the tracks up to hammer pass then walking back down on the path its become a daily thing. Fantastic views are to be found all over. The rubbish problem has now gone with the removal of the bin at the car park and cctv signs up the forest road have helped

A beautiful area and a lovely walk but our day was spoiled by the sight of grey squirrels at Giggle Alley.
Please do something about these pests before they overwhelm the native reds.
Forestry Commission Response
Thanks for getting in touch. The local squirrel groups are doing an amazing job in protecting red squirrels but they do rely on support from the public. It is important to report grey squirrel sightings; in areas where reds are the predominant squirrel it will facilitate removal of the greys. It will also enable maps to be assembled showing both types of squirrel. You can report sightings on the Northern Red Squirresl website, www.northernredsquirrels.org.uk/sighting.htm
