Skill Beck provides water to the Old Sawmill tearoom and Mirehouse. The trail climbs over 300 metres crossing the beck and following its course back to the car park. Excellent views of Bassenthwaite Lake and the surrounding fells can be seen along this trail.

A good day but spoiled for the want of a sign.
On arrival we opted for Skill Beck trail, and no notice at the start that part of the trail was closed. On arrival at point of closure, no information on how to continue other than a diversion sign; but this diversion led to the much more demanding summit trail. Not what we wanted to do.
Forestry Commission Response
Sorry to hear that your walk didn't go to plan. There should be signs at the start of the trails explaining the diversions and whilst the diversion is a longer route it shouldn't have taken you all the way to the summit trail. We've passed your feedback to the ranger team who will check the signage hasn't been removed. The diversion is in place because a bridge was washed away during the winter storms but this will be replaced in the next few weeks and all the trails back to normal very soon.

Took my family on this trail and we all enjoyed the little waterfalls and the different trees plus we seen a little deer. Well sign posted and well looked after path
