Trail description

The View from Dodd WoodTrail conditions: The trail has an alternative route signed due to timber harvesting works happening on the normal route. Please follow the "alternative green route" signs. You can still access the summit.

The summit of Dodd Wood gives unrivaled panoramas which encompass Derwentwater, Bassenthwaite Lake, the Solway Coast and even the hills of Dumfries and Galloway. This steep circular trail passes through wooded slopes, dramtic open hill and spectacular scenery.

We really enjoyed the Dodd Summit walk although it is quite steep and narrow in places. The leaflet at the tearoom states this wal is 3 miles. Not so - 4.38 miles according to our GPS tracker!

Why are are you saying the trai is closed ,as we walked up it on Sunday 18th Sept.

Mike, 24/Sep/2016

Works have now been delayed, and as you say the trail is open at the moment. Apologies for the confusion. We will update the website again once we have a confirmed time-frame for the planned forestry operations.

Forestry Commission Response

Just downloaded the Forest Xplorer app, as advertised on this website for Dodd Wood, to check out the walking trail routes in Dodd Wood, but Dodd Wood isn't even mentioned in the Xplorer app. Boo.

Anonymous, 11/May/2016

The advert for the app appears on all our webpages but we concentrated on providing information for the main visitor centres sites first. Dodd Wood will be added to the app shortly. Apologies for the confusion!
