National Statistics and the UK Statistics Authority
The UK Statistics Authority was established on 1 April 2008 to promote and safeguard the quality of official statistics across the UK. It is an independent body, with powers to monitor and report on all official statistics, and from April 2008 will assess all statistics that are branded as National Statistics. All National Statistics publications are announced on the Publication Hub. Further information is available on the UK Statistics Authority website. From August 2001 certain forestry statistics outputs have been approved for inclusion in National Statistics. In 2002 we carried out a review of these forestry statistics. We maintain a year ahead programme for all FC statistical publications. This is updated on a monthly basis on our recent and forthcoming publications page. An annual work plan indicates the range of Forestry Commission statistics work. The National Statistics Code of Practice - Statement of Principles was published on 25 September 2002. Accompanying protocols have also been published. The Code of Practice and published protocols are available on the National Statistics website. The Forestry Commission has arrangements in place to implement the National Statistics Code of Practice. For further information please see our: - compliance statement (updated May 2008), which sets out how we are implementing the Code of Practice and supporting protocols.
- paper (updated May 2008) detailing release arrangements for each of the Forestry Commission's National Statistics publications.
- paper (revised May 2008) describing our revisions policy for each data series in our National Statistics outputs.
- paper (published January 2007) describing pre-release access to our National Statistics outputs.
