Background

Vattenfall UK have signed an Option Agreement with the Welsh Government giving them exclusive right to seek planning permission to develop a wind energy project within Strategic Search Area (SSA) F.

The development is in excess of 50 megawatts and planning consent was sought from the Department of Energy and Climate Change.

Project Progress

July 2014

Construction for Pen y Cymoedd (PyC) is now underway, with work commencing on site access tracks – this includes the upgrading of existing forest tracks as well as new tracks leading to the turbine locations.  Over the next few months, construction of the first 30 turbine foundations will begin in the Central East area. A map can be viewed here.

NRW has an Environmental Manager onsite, working with Vattenfall to help minimise environmental impact during construction and also looking towards the future, helping to identify areas to benefit from the Habitat Management Plan for PyC..

Whilst public access is still allowed within the Construction, Design and Management Regulations (CDM) area, there are some restrictions and diversions in place.
