Vattenfall UK have signed an Option Agreement with the Welsh Government giving them exclusive right to seek planning permission to develop a wind energy project within Strategic Search Area (SSA) F.
The development is in excess of 50 megawatts and planning consent was sought from the Department of Energy and Climate Change.
The three year construction period for the Pen y Cymoedd Wind Energy Project is now underway and will continue until early 2017, when Vattenfall expect the wind farm to be fully operational. Work onsite is progressing on schedule with more than 24 turbine foundations now complete.
To gain a better understanding of the site and to see some of the work that has already taken place, an aerial view of Pen y Cymoedd is available for viewing here.
Whilst public access is still allowed within the Construction, Design and Management Regulations (CDM) area, there are some restrictions and diversions in place.
