The Woodlands for Wales Action Plan sets out what needs to happen over the next five years to make progress towards achieving the outcomes of Woodlands for Wales, the Welsh Assembly Government’s (WAG) 50 year strategy for trees and woodlands. The Action Plan identifies the key activities that need to be undertaken, what needs to be done and who is responsible for taking the lead for each action.
The Action Plan was developed by Forestry Commission Wales on behalf of WAG with the support of the Woodland Strategy Advisory Panel (WSAP). This panel includes representatives from government, social, business, voluntary and environmental sectors.
The Woodlands for Wales strategy identifies the significant contribution woodlands and trees can make to delivering social, economic and environmental benefits and to addressing the impacts of climate change. The Action Plan lists activities that will improve the delivery of these benefits.
The actions in the Plan are grouped under the same 5 themes of the strategy which are:
- Welsh woodlands and trees
- Responding to Climate Change
- Woodlands for people
- A competitive and integrated forest sector
- Environmental quality
Each action is linked to one of the 20 outcomes of the Woodlands for Wales strategy but in practice every action contributes to more than one of them and often across several of the 5 themes.
Lead and the principal supporting organisations involved in delivering each action are listed. A wide range of organisations from the public, private and voluntary sectors are signed up to take actions forward. However these lists are not exhaustive and many other organisations will be involved in the partnerships that will need to work together to deliver many of the actions.
For each action the progress made so far is summarised (Current Status), this will be updated annually.
The Action Plan will be reviewed periodically and there will be opportunities to revise actions, and those responsible for their delivery, during the 5 year life of the plan.
