Cold weather conditions

Visiting woods and forests

Snow and ice has affected many woods and forests around Scotland. Some car parks and woodland trails are inaccessible as a result.

  • Woods and forests in Aberdeenshire, Perthshire and the Scottish Borders are particularly affected and we recommend for updates you contact the relevant district offices.

We strongly recommend that any visitors take sensible precautions and ensure they heed any safety or warning signs. Additionally, when temperatures start to rise again, we expect snow to begin dropping from tree tops and branches, possibly bringing debris with it.

Our services

We will be making all efforts to ensure that our offices and depots are open and working, to ensure our recreation facilities are safe and, wherever conditions and resources allow, to offer help to communities and businesses locally to help cope with the freeze.

Please contact your local Forestry Commission Scotland office for further information, but be aware that some of the offices themselves may be unable to open due to the adverse weather conditions.
