Climate Change

Climate Change is an issue that cuts across all our work.  We are helping to tackle climate change by:

  • Protecting woodlands and forests as important carbon sinks
  • Increasing woodland cover to sequester more carbon
  • Encouraging greater use of wood for fuel, displacing fossil fuels
  • Encouraging greater use of wood in construction, displacing concrete, aluminium and steel
  • Playing our part in developing and delivering the NE Climate Change Action Plan

The latest guidance on the likely impacts of climate change on forestry in England are summarised in this FC publication Climate Change: impacts and adaptation in Englands woodlands

Events

Forestry Commission NE England Region and ConFor's [external link] north England region, with the support of the Regional Climate Change Partnership [external link], organised an event to raise awareness about how trees, woods, forests and timber contribute to tackling climate change in November 2008.  The papers and presentations from this event are below.
