Ian Forshaw Memorial Medal

All the entries are now with the judges and the winner will be contacted shortly.Following the tragic and sudden death of Ian Forshaw, Director Forestry Commission Wales in 2007, the Commission, with the support of Ian’s family and the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society have decided to create a new award, as a lasting memory to Ian’s significant and wide ranging contribution to forestry, especially during his time in Wales. The Ian Forshaw Memorial Medal award will be presented annually in conjunction with the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society to promote excellence and innovation in forestry and the use of timber in Wales. Ian was active and saw forestry in its widest sense, so this award is intended to reflect this and the breadth of forestry & related activities that are associated with the woodlands of Wales. 1.Nomination Criteria The judges will consider the following criteria in selecting Medal winners: - made a difference to the woodlands, forestry activity/sector or the timber industry in Wales
- brought distinction to and enhanced the reputation of forestry, the timber industry or woodlands in Wales
- demonstrated innovation and/or entrepreneurship
- carried the respect of their peers.
2. Eligibility The medal is open to individuals, groups or businesses that study, influence or practice forestry or use timber in Wales.
3. Nomination Process Nominations and supporting evidence should not exceed one page of A4. Nomination forms may be downloaded from the FC Wales website or from Huw Evans, Forestry Commission Wales, Victoria House, Victoria Terrace, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion SY23 2DQ. Nomination forms to be returned to Huw Evans by 30th June 2008. 4. Selection Process Nominations will be reviewed and the award recipient chosen by the following: Non-Executive Forestry Commissioner, Judith Webb and Honorary Show Director of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, Harry Fetherstonhaugh. The judges reserve the right not to award a Medal each year, and the judges’ decision is final. 5. Presentation of the Medal The Medal and £500 will be presented at the Forestry Awards Ceremony at the Royal Welsh Show on Tuesday 22nd July 2008.
