Education and learning at Sherwood Pines Forest Park

Sherwood Pines Forest Park is a mixed conifer and broadleaf woodland, with open spaces, heathland and ponds.
It is a multi-purpose forest, managed by the Forestry Commission for timber production, wildlife and recreation.
A visit to the woodland provides an exciting day of discovery, allowing children a sense of freedom in a safe environment.

Our education rangers can lead all or part of your visit. Sessions and activities are available for all ages from pre-school to A-level. Alternatively, a classroom can be hired and we can facilitate a visit led by your own staff.

Pre-School / Key stage 3

Key stage 4 and above

Sherwood Pines is the ideal place to bring a secondary school group for a field visit.  We can tailor the sessions to meet your group's requirements for a variety of subjects and abilities.
Sessions available includes:

  • Geography and ecology field studies
  • BTEC science field visits
  • Leisure and tourism studies
  • Multi-purpose forestry
  • Forest workers
  • Orienteering (GCSE assessments available)
  • Woodland art
  • Key stage 3 pond dipping, team building, shelter building ect..
  • Forest experience (OCN accredited bushcraft course aimed at young people with challenging behaviour) 

Booking and costs:

All school partys must book in advance.

Charges for ranger-led activities start at £60 for a half day session and just £85 for a full day.

There is no extra charge per child or for coach parking.

Classroom hire from £35 is also available for groups leading their own activities.

A pre-visit is recommended if you have not previously brought a school group to Sherwood Pines.
