We met in the car park north of Dolgellau for our usual social get together and picnic lunch, about mid-day. As always there was a good turn out. This visit was arranged by Mair Jones and Iola Davenport and when we were ready we walked up the valley and had a guided tour (a big thank you to Nia Rowlands) of the Abbey at Llanelltyd. It was fascinating to hear all about the history of the surrounding area and the history of the Abbey itself. We then travelled to Ty’n y Groes to see the impressive Douglas Fir. We met with Ruth Jenkins (Forest District Manager) at this point and listened to the background to this magnificent stand. Afterwards we went to the new Forest Centre at Maesgwm where the afternoon finished with refreshments courtesy of the Forestry Commission.
