Dinas Mawddwy
In October 2004, following research carried out by Gwynedd Council, Dinas Mawddwy was ranked 6th amongst communities in Gwynedd with housing affordability concerns.
The following year Forestry Commission Wales, at the behest of the National Assembly for Wales, made land available to local planning authorities for potential affordable housing developments. This included land at Dinas Mawddwy and following a review it was identified as a leading candidate. To help take the initiative forward, a meeting was arranged between the FC, Gwynedd Council, Cymdeithas Tai Eryri and Cymdeithas Tai Clwyd, which resulted in a survey being commissioned to gauge the housing needs within Mawddwy Community Council.
During June 2006, an open day was held in the village hall to allow local residents the opportunity to register their needs and also to present their views on possible development sites and draft plans.
Following on from the consultation process and from an assessment carried out by officers from Cymdeithas Tai Clwyd, Snowdonia National Park Development Control Committee and Gwynedd Council Highways Department the decision was taken to endorse the FC site at Minllyn as the best initial option. This was backed by the Community Council who agreed to support an affordable housing development at this location. Subsequently, in February 2007 a planning application was submitted to Snowdonia National Park Authority for the building of three, eco-friendly, terraced houses on the Minllyn site in Dinas Mawddwy. This application was approved by the Planning Committee on the 7th March 2007.
