Innerleithen lies on the A72 between Peebles and Galashiels in the Scottish Borders, around 45km south of Edinburgh. The trail head is roughly 1.5km from Innerleithen village, just off the B709 Traquair Road.

By bike
National Cycle Route 1 runs through Innerleithen.
The B7062 offers a quiet option for cycling from Peebles to Innerleithen. Follow the road to the junction with the B709 at Traquair, then turn left, heading back towards Innerleithen. After about 1.5km, the road bends to the left, with a minor road straight ahead. Turn onto the minor road. The trail head is on the right hand side.

First Edinburgh service 62 runs daily from Edinburgh to Innerleithen village, taking around 1 hour 20 minutes. Please note that bikes cannot be carried on this service.
There are no direct routes from Glasgow, Carlisle, or Newcastle, however, connections from Newcastle and Glasgow can be made in Edinburgh, and there is a connection to Innerleithen village from Galashiels if travelling from Carlisle.

The closest stations are at Carstairs and Edinburgh, from where there are bus connections to Peebles and connections to regional and national cycle networks (see by bike, above). Both are roughly 45km from Innerleithen.
Services to Carstairs are provided by First Scotrail and Virgin Trains. They also provide services to Edinburgh, along with National Express East Coast.
