Volunteering
What Can I Do?
Whatever your age, ability, or fitness level there are plenty of opportunities for volunteering. We have an established regular group of conservation volunteers who meet at Haldon every Wednesday. They do important work including: - removing invasive species such as rhododendron
- work with veteran trees, monitoring their health
- creating dead wood – important for fungi and invertebrates
- providing nest sites for woodpeckers
- making newt breeding scrapes
- scrub bashing
- creating glades
- weeding birch from oak plantations
Haldon4Horses were also formed late last year. They have been working closely with us on issues important to horse riders at Haldon Forest Park. We also need volunteers to help us maintain our walking, riding and cycle trails, help out with events, and carry out surveys. If you and your friends are keen to make a difference, get in touch. How Do I Volunteer? If you would like to join in with one of our volunteer groups, or if you have an idea for starting a volunteer group, contact the Haldon Forest Park Team on 01392 834251 or e-mail haldon.rangers@forestry.gsi.gov.uk Work ExperienceWe get a lot of enquiries about doing work experience at the park, but unfortunately we cannot always provide placements. If you would like to find out whether there is an opportunity for work experience e-mail haldon.rangers@forestry.gsi.gov.uk or call the forest park manager on 01392 834235.
