The play equipment at Haldon Forest Park is a mixture of ‘off-the-shelf’ pieces and one off designs.
The musical instruments along the Discovery Trail are made by a company called SIK-Holz. You’ll notice the distinctive yellow wood they use called Robinia, which doesn’t need to be treated with any chemicals because it has a naturally high resistance to water. We also liked their unusual designs, which retain the shape and characterisitics of each piece of wood.
The individual pieces, such as the throne, the fan shelter, and the sensory waymarkers at Mamhead, were designed and made by local designer Nick Meech. The smooth grey wood he used is Sweet Chestnut from our own plantation at Black Forest, below Mamhead House.
All the wood we use carries the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) quality mark, which certifies it as coming from a sustainable source.
